Black Sabbath is a British hard rock band from Birmingham. He is often considered, as much by the specialized press as by the public, as one of the founding and precursor groups of heavy metal, or even as the first group of this kind of music.
The original formation of Black Sabbath is composed of Anthony 'Tony' Iommi on guitar, John Michael 'Ozzy' Osbourne singing (who will later go back and forth between the band and his solo career), Terence 'Geezer' Butler on bass and William 'Bill Ward on the drums. However, the group is undergoing several reshuffles, with nearly twenty former members, among them Ronnie James Dio, Tony Martin, Ian Gillan, Cozy Powell and Glenn Hughes. Tony Iommi is the only member to be present from the beginning without interruption. Inventor of the heavy and gloomy riff, perfectly in tune with his style 'sombre' , the band owes a lot to the guitar game developed by Tony Iommi, whose two fingers had been cut during an accident in his previous job as a metal worker>.
Black Sabbath remains a dominant influence in the heavy metal scene, and his first ten albums are considered classics of the genre; in particular, Paranoid and Heaven and Hell, several times platinum discs. In addition, MTV places Black Sabbath in first place in its ranking of the biggest metal bands. In 2014, the group has more than one hundred million albums sold worldwide. The group separates in 2017.

The four founders of Black Sabbath are from Aston, an underprivileged area of Birmingham. They make their debut in various small groups: guitarist Tony Iommi and drummer Bill Ward play together in a blues rock band called Mythology, while bassist Terence Butler recruits singer John Michael ' Ozzy ' Osbourne for his own blues rock band, Rare Breed>. Mythology separated in July 1968, but Iommi and Ward were quick to assemble a new group. They call Butler, and Ozzy is engaged with him. The band, dubbed The Polka Tulk Blues Company, also has a saxophonist and a second guitarist, but their presence is quickly dismissed as superfluous and they are fired after two concerts. Reduced to a foursome, the Polka Tulk Blues Company is renamed Earth>.
